Twilight

The twilight of our civilization is in the shiny screens we spend our days staring at. Slowly leaking out the only good we’ve ever been capable of, intellect becomes nothing more than 1’s and 0’s. Pride overwhelms us as we watch more trinkets from others blinded by their own genius flood our once green world. We smile as they dismiss the truth of their inventions.

Money-crunchers and CEO’s praise god in thanks as they destroy the creation they believe he gave us. Life becomes pitifully small and valued less and less as we look to silicone for happiness and pass ourselves around like cheap whores. Independence and truth are lies and we sell our souls and our children for minutes, for seconds more of self-congratulatory destruction.

We have bought these lies and now cannot care. We stare at the illusion and call it reality. We watch life on a screen as the world dies. We cannot think because intellect cannot be found in the ether of the internet. We dismiss each other and ourselves and call it progress.

Pay Attention

Don’t let a phone get in the way of looking at someone while they talk. Visit with the flesh and blood sitting in front of you. Share their smile or grimace. The picture doesn’t matter. The text can wait. Turn off the ringer. There is nothing more important than that person that you are sharing a minute, an hour, a day with. There is nothing on that screen that can give you as much or that you can learn more from.

That small, magical box is Pandora’s. Let her have it. Give it away freely. Forget about it. Let the battery run dead and find your life once again. People are flesh and blood, and they have given you their time. The silicone and plastic, the oil and electricity soaked entertainment takes your time and sells you an illusion. Put it down. First for an hour, then a day. Then a week.

It’s worth the pain. Don’t look at it while it sits and lures you in the the fake imagination and shiny promises of a preacher. Let the wires retract from your veins and let the sun shine through the backlit LED lies that flash so quickly as to not be seen. Don’t be fooled. Be bored. Don’t look for information. Find knowledge. Find yourself. Find what friends used to mean.

Pay attention to the moment. Pay attention. Now.

SMART PHONES CAUSING SEPARATION FROM FAMILY AND SOCIAL ...

Yes folks, the zoo is open.  Spending our time eyeing strangers over the rims of our iPhones with speculative if not skeptical eyes.  And if that is not enough the cameras, on the phones and on every corner, will do it for us.  Stay on the path and don’t feed the animals.
The glass walls are cleaned every once in a while and no one seems to know who the zookeepers are.  Nevertheless, the food keeps coming and the cages are cleaned; we are happy and content…so they say.  And the next installment is just down the way.
Far back in our memories we seem to remember a different way of living;  I remember when everyone went out to shop, and I’m told that at some point you had to grow your own food.  These narratives of neverland must be mythical.  We’re told what to buy.  Take a left by the palm tree and notice the Orangatangs.
Don’t mind the forlorn looks on the faces; they’re happy as clams.  Just remind them with a peanut how good they’ve got it!  The four walls?  That’s just for safety, both theirs and yours.  Look at their funny butts; let’s post that! And for our next visit we can just catch them if you look hard enough: the majestic cats of the jungle.  I promise they’re in there!  And if you’ll follow me, I’ve got just the place for you.
